Humanities and outdoor activities

In September 2018 we launched an exciting new change to the curriculum. One half day of each week year 7 and 8 pupils participate in outdoor activities which aim to improve their ability to work in teams, build confidence and engage within school. As part of this day the pupils also study Humanities in the “real world”.

Year 7

The Outdoor and Adventurous Activities that our pupils undertake, aim to enhance the learning provided in Humanities lessons. During year 7 our pupils Develop their understanding of physical and human Geography including map-work skills. They build on this knowledge later in the term identifying climate and weather and move on to learn about History of the United Kingdom. This is enhanced by developing skills off site in Mountain Biking, Geocaching, Orienteering and in the Summer term, Water Sports activities.

Year 8

Our pupils build on the Geographical Knowledge gained in year 7 by learning about rivers of the world, plastic pollution and natural disasters.  They also undertake a project about World War 2 which involve travelling to several museums and then developing an understanding of different religions. This work is underpinned by our work off site including Camp-craft, Outdoor and Adventurous Activities, Mountain Biking and Fishing.
