Humanities and outdoor activities
In September 2018 we launched an exciting new change to the curriculum. One half day of each week year 7 and 8 pupils participate in outdoor activities which aim to improve their ability to work in teams, build confidence and engage within school. As part of this day the pupils also study Humanities in the “real world”.
Autumn Term 2018 First Half
Geography –Mapwork and the UK
Understand how to orientate a map. Use a range of techniques to navigate yourself and a group to reach your goal.
Understand basic symbols and use them to create your own maps for others to read.
Be able to locate features on a map including the main rivers, mountains and national parks of the UK.
Describe the concept of contours and be able to interpret them to create three dimensional objects.
Begin to use compass bearings and map together effectively.
Autumn Term 2018 Second Half
Climbing and High Ropes ( Harlow outdoors)
History – British History State and society in mediaeval Britain
- Understand the safety requirements of climbing including the correct use of equipment including helmet harness and ropes.
- Be able to use basic climbing techniques and methods of belaying and communication
- Experience a range of climbs indoor and outdoor.
- Using the topics of the Norman Conquest and the emergence of Parliament pupils will deepen their understanding of local history. Pupils will develop their methods of enquiry, make connections and draw contrasts.
